Description: The Sand Crab, run entirely on sand, on the beach, is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars on a beautiful South Padre Island Beach at night, get fed, have a few beers while listening to great live music with other
runners on a warm spring night. This 5K run is very walker friendly with a 2hr cut off. The 10K is walkable but will share the 2 hr cut off. 10K runners must be at the 3.1 mile turnaround within 1 hour. Click here to see the course.
The Sand Crab starts on the beach behind LaQuinta Inn and runs south for 3.1 or 1.55 miles (depending on the event). Turnaround at flashing yellow lights manned by a course marshal and head back to the finish. The post race bash will be held right next door at Clayton’s Resort Beach Bar and Grill.
The course will follow glow sticks and LED tiki torches. LED Tikis stay lit in any wind but they do not light the beach for you to see. They only let you know where the course is.Runners are required to run with a flashlight or head lamp in order to see. Without them you will not see sand castle holes and other hazards. Make sure you have ample lighting in order to run a pitch dark beach at night.
There are 2 watertops with HEB Quench and water hit 2X ea for the 10K and 1 hit 2X for the 5K. After finishing, runners receive bbq with all the fixins and cold cerveza for those of age. Extra BBQ plates available for $10 (this is a good deal).

Cut-off Times
Participants have 2 hours to finish both races. That is a 19:21 minute mile for the 10K and a 38:42 mile for the 5K. If you can not walk this fast, please do not participate in this event. If you do not make the cut off times you will not appear in the results.

Packet Pickup
Early packet pick up will be Friday, April 27th in Brownsville at Footworks Running Store on 2224 South 77 Sunshine Strip, Harlingen 78550 from 12 pm-6 pm and at the La Quinta Inn on South Padre, 7000 Padre Boulevard, South Padre Island, Texas 78597 on April 28 from 3pm-6pm.
