Our 26.2 Miles of Payment series is about sharing the stories of San Antonio area runners who put in the hard work to qualify and participate in the upcoming Boston Marathon. San Antonio Area Runners have been submitting their stories and we are sharing them with you, the running community. We hope to inspire and promote health and fitness by way of endurance sports.
Kristi Lucas
Kristi moved from San Diego with her 4 year old daughter not knowing anyone or anything about San Antonio. She is an employee at the Petco Corporate office that recently opened here in San Antonio. “What a rude awakening the heat was compared to San Diego!” , Kristi says.
Kristi manages to keep up with a 60 mile per week schedule which includes a 20 miler EVERY Saturday. She's been doing this for 15 years and continues to get up every morning at 5:00 a.m. and run pushing her daughter in her baby jogger. Kristi mentions how blessed she is to have a child that can sit through a 3 hour run. She is also very thankful to Apple for the invention of the Iphone and movies that her daughter can watch on the run.
This upcoming Marathon Monday wil be her 3rd Boston Marathon and her 27th overall marathon. Her first visit to Bean Town for the event was in 2004 during the record breaking heat then again in 2006. “This will be my first time back since my daughter was born, so it means the most to me. Even after running so many marathons, I’m still a nervous wreck.”, Kristi Lucas.
